Why won't my headset jack register anything i plug in it?

When I plug an auxiliary cord or headphones in sound still comes outta the phone like I don't even have anything plugged in.

Welcome to Android Central! Make sure there isn't any debris lodged in the jack. Use a damp toothpick to root around, or blow it out with a can of compressed air.

Do those headsets or aux cables work normally on other devices?
