New to rooting, not sure what to do next.

So I finally got my droid charge rooted and i flashed the altered beast rom. I am hoping i can get some direction as to what i should do next. Not quite sure what else rooting lets me do really. I dl'ed a wifi tether but thats about it. I also have a question on kernals. I read a few places that talked about flashing kernals after flashing roms, so does this mean that i can flash a kernal on top of the rom without doing anything else? Thanks in advance!
