Mobile P REV and settings

So I was messing with some settings the other day and know that mobile P REV has to do with the technology and things with the network but when I dial ##7738 and press talk and change it to REV 1 the phone restarts like normal but goes straight into extended network when I have full Verizon 3g signal here. At one time it even had the roaming triangle but 3g worked great however I could not place calls?? I have changed this setting on other phones in the past and usually mobile rev 1 just gives you digital signal so voice and text, no 1x data. I was trying to see if battery would be saved with this on and wi-fi but I get extended network and roaming triangle on home only lol so it kills the battery. Any ideas why? Also if you want your phone to hit extended network for calls and texts in a fringe area just change the setting lol. REV 3 works just like 6.
