cell standby 54% usage :-(

I've primarily been home, since getting my new lg optimus black phone, and it dies so quick. I attributed it at first to the flurry of downloading/updating/playing with new apps but each time I check battery usage Cell Standby is always the culprit of my poor red battery. Does this mean I may need to change phones? I really like this thing, but I am tethered to my charger. Anyone experience this or know how to help?
