Your challenge if you choose to accept it is to help me solve this weird back-up problem on KitKat! Any takers?

Okay, I'll just get straight to the point.

I ****ed up. Factory reset my phone today, and 'was convinced' that my contacts were synced. They weren't. Only to be later discovered that the contacts were saved in the 'Device' on not on gmail.
However, I randomly 'copied' the entire phone, on my laptop using a data cable. Not using any software. Just plain copied.

My question is, can I somehow get my contacts back? You can only think about my anxiousness at the moment!

The contacts are in a database file - which you probably didn't copy. Sorry. Hope you don't wear your fingers out putting them back in, but using a keyboard and mouse on Google Contacts is a lot easier than doing it on the phone.
