Facebook notification help

In the past my FB icon will show a red dot with the number of new notifications in it. Once I opened the notification folder, even if I didn't open any of the notifications, my icon would clear and show no notifications. Just this weekend I've noticed that say I have 10 new notifications and I open the folder then close it, I still have 10 notifications. The only way they will dissappear from my icon is if I open each one. This is very annoying since at least half of them are stupid and don't require me opening them. I wonder if this came in an update? Has anyone noticed this?
I'm using a Note 5 on 6.0.1

I just reconnected with a friend a few weeks ago, causing me to pay closer attention to FB. I didn't want the app on my phone, so I set up Chrome to notify me of FB notifications. Would you be interested in that? The only downside is, FB forces you to use the Messenger app...thanks, FB.
