Phone just resets when trying to update

My phone tells me I have a system update, but every time I try to install it, it will load, reset and flash an error (an android on it's back with an exclamation point or something) for a split second then reset like nothing happened, then it'll remind me again later on. I have rooted my phone, idk if rooting it doesn't allow you to update? But if I can update it manually or at least tell my phone to stop asking me to update, that would be great. If someone could kinda walk me through the process, I'd REALLY appreciate it, cause it's driving me crazy..

My phone is a- LG Optimus F3 LTE
My carrier is- Virgin Mobile
My Operating System is- 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

Yes, root has an effect on receiving official updates. You won't get the update unless you unroot or flash a rooted version of the update.

What's happening is the update is checking the system for the appropriate files and if it detects a missing or modified file then it won't pass the checks and fail the update.

I've got the same problem with a rooted LG OPtimus F3 on Virgin Mobile. I performed a factory reset, and still get the dead android (android falls over during attempted update). Am I correct to assume a factory reset does not un-root my phone?
