How long have you had the battery? Have these problems arisen after upgrading to Lollipop?

Yes, i remember this happened once before upgrading to lollipop. I have had the battery since I bought the phone in sept 2013. It's not a removable battery so I'm stuck with it. Should I attach the text of the bug report?

a number of possible causes.
screen brightness
screen saver
damaged battery
resource intensive games / apps

I think, going by the causes you listed, it has to be a damaged battery because I haven't used anything else that you mentioned. No screen saver, no live wallpaper, no new apps and I dont play games. Screen brightness is set to adaptive. Never buying a phone with a non-removable battery again

Try flashing a different ROM. My battery was going from 30 to 0 in minutes on the stock rom. I flashed cm and now I can hold 30% for at least 40-50 mins.
