Why does the notification on text messages only sound on 1st text of conversation?

why does notification on text message only sound on 1st text of conversation?

I don't receive an alert on all text message, just the 1st one of conversation.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you already viewing the conversation when more posts come in? If you actually have the conversation open in the Messaging app, you won't hear notification tones, because the phone assumes you already see the new messages, since you're looking at them come in.
