Unlocked version of ROM cracked devices

I rooted my AT&T htc on M7 my question is does official unlocked version lollipop ROM work on my cracked or rooted phone. i have tried different versions of lollipop roms i felt the official is better so will unlocked ROM work on rooted phone. i have tried but it did not work if it can be worked out let me know how

The ROM isn't unlocked. You can unlock the bootloader and you can unlock the SIM lock. Rooting has nothing to do with either one. An update shouldn't continue after it finds signs that the phone has been rooted (even if it's not rooted now), because updating with a stock update could brick the phone. But a SIM-unlocked phone has nothing to do with the ROM. (As far as "cracked", I have no idea what you mean by that. In software it refers to getting around paying for a not-free program.)
