Why is my Galaxy Tab 3 still showing up as MTP even though I've enabled USB debugging?

AC Question

That's pretty much it. I would like to recover some files on my GT3 10.1 and for that I would need to connect this as USB Mass Storage (rooting is not an option for me). Anyhow, I've enabled USB debugging in the developer options, which does, well, nothing. What am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance.

Which of these would be the right one then?
The right one for what? Connecting with adb (which is why you turn debugging on)? Copying files (which is what MTP is for)?

For most normal uses, turn USB debugging on and leave it as MTP. Then if you want to connect to the device, use adb (or a terminal app on the phone). If you want to flash a ROM, boot the device into download mode.
