How to fix contact has stopped error?

I'm on Samsung s3, recently an error started occuring, the message "Contact has stopped" shows even when I'm not trying to dial a number, I tried clearing data, restoring factory settings and even got a software format, but the error remains. Also every time I try to chose which contacts to display it says: sim card initializing. Anyone got a clue on what I should do?

Make sure the SIM card and the card slot or tray are in good clean condition. If all seems well, the card may be faulty. Your carrier or network will be able to offer a replacement.
