Easiest way to Unlock s4mini for Verizon?

Hi, I'm sorry if this has been covered already but I have been unable to find a method that works. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a VERIZON SCH-I435 running android 4.4.2 I am planning on giving the phone to my friend who wants to use it with another prepaid carrier (Boost or Tmobile, I believe) is there an easy way to unlock this phone so he can use it with another carrier. I'm trying to avoid having to spend the money at a cell store to unlock it.

Please tell me there is some way I can do this from home. Sorry if this is a stupid question - I've never tried to do this before.

Have you asked Verizon whether they will do it?

I believe that it should be sim unlocked. Have you tried a Tmobile sim? Boost might not work as it is a sprint mvno
