Are there damaged sectors in my smartphone's internal memory?

For a number of times i have downloaded and installed applications from google play without problems. it was not until recently when i tried to install apps from google play and i got an error "there is no enough disc space in your phone, delete some items". I then checked my phone's storage and amazingly 70 % of the space was unused.

I thought it wise to test the space by storing music in it, some played and a big number of them refused. Am worried, can somebody help me?

It sounds like the firmware is bugged. You could try a full reset to maybe fix it.
