My messaging app keeps crashing. How can I fix this on my Samsung avant?

When ever I open my messaging app I get a pop up the says "unfortunately messages has stopped." How can I fix this so I can text on my phone again?

Try clearing the cache for that app in your application manager.
Alternatively, go to Settings, Storage, Cached Data, and clear the Cache.
If still no go, get back to us.

Same problem, screen freezes and I have to restart. Tried the fix with Cache clearing, etc.

Have you tried a different text message application? Google has one that is free on Play.

Yes, I did find a neat one from Verizon. The problem is, when using Ultra saving mode, you can only use the default message app, and it also crashes in that mode as well. Looks like I'm facing a reset...
