How do I turn messaging off

I have a Samsung Galaxy 4. I get frequent useless messages which I don't want. How can I turn off messaging entirely or restrict reception to just a few favourite numbers?

Go on your message apk and go to the informations and then click on disable notifications it should work, otherway there are some apps that allow you to block numbers
