Why can't I see the contents of my phone when I connect to a Windows 7 PC?

Before the Marshmallow 6.0 update for my phone, when I connected it to my computer, I would get a listing of the files that are on the phone. Then I could click on the files for say pictures and get a listing of all the pictures that are on my phone. Now, since the update, all I can get is the device name "Nexus 5" displayed on my computer and when I click on that, it goes no where. In the auto play window that pops up I have some options about downloading new pictures but when I choose them it just tells me that there are no new pictures for downloading. I have checked security settings and tried to load new drivers for the computer but nothing has helped. Looking for suggestions from anyone that might help.

Possibly a bug in marshmallow. Is the phone unlocked when you have it connected to the pc?
