Are restricted (kids) user accounts removed from Marshmallow?

I recall setting up restricted users on previous Android versions but now with Marshmallow, it seems you can only add additional users that have a Gmail address. Is this correct? I want to create a separate user so my kids can use my phone without access to my sensitive and important apps. Can this be done?
