Droid Turbo 2 keyboard disappears

Just got a new Droid Turbo 2 and almost immediately had problems with phone freezing at random times/applications. I've been able to resolve that and am living with forcing a restart multiple times daily, but have now run into a different problem with keyboard completely unusable whether trying to text, email, type in browser etc. I tried clearing the cache partition but no change. I'm ready to dump the phone but am open to any ideas on how to fix this?

Is this using the keyboard that came with the phone, or one downloaded from the Play Store? Have you tried going to Settings > Apps > Google Keyboard (or the keyboard app you're using) and clearing cache and data?
