authentication problem home network moto-e lte

[AC Question]

My wife's new Moto-e won't connect to my working home WIFI network. Set up is identical to my connected Samsung phone but we keep getting "authentication error". How do I fix this?

Have you tried rebooting your router?

Yes,, I've rebooted my Linksys router a couple of times and have turned the phone off and back on several times too

I've also retyped the router password into the phone for the desired network where it defaults showing "unchanged". When I hit "connect", it goes from "connecting" to "authenticating", to "saved" then "authentication problem".
