AC Question

When I try and set my lock screen to anything besides swipe to unlock, it will not register it. For example, I set up for pin & Once I lock my phone, it can be unlocked with just a swipe. I've tried the other lock options like the pasword and pattern but I have the same outcome. I've update my J5 from lolipop to marshmallow recently.

Please help. Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you sure the time interval between when the screen turns off and when it locks is set to something short? It's usually in Settings>Lock Screen>Automatically Lock.

If you go to Settings>Lock Screen & Security, what options do you see? Is there an Other Security Settings? What's in there?

In other seurity settings,
1.set up sim card lock
2.security policy update
3.device administrator
4.storage type
5.view security certificate
6.user certificate
7.install from devise storage
8.clear credential

Anvanced
Pin window
Usage data acces
Notification acces
Do not diaturb permision

Set the screen lock type to password or pattern. Then look at the Lock Screen & Security menu again. See if the Automatically Lock option shows up now.

This is unusual. Belodion had previously suggested booting into Safe Mode, but you responded by saying you did a couple of resets. This isn't always the same, since apps can reinstall automatically after a factory reset. Safe Mode will make sure any 3rd party app that wasn't preinstalled is temporarily disabled, in case it's causing problems.

Also, what happens if you turn the screen off, then wait about 30 minutes, and turn the screen on again? Is it still only swipe to unlock, or does the screen lock appear this time?

There was a discussion shortly after the update landed concerning this issue but I don't remember where the discussion took place.
One individual found a solution by disabling an app. called "Call lock" but if you have already perused the Safe Mode option and found no joy. I would say this option has been ruled out. Unless locks are separate and abide by different rules.
A second individual's final solution, involved going the route of "Odin" and re-flashing a stock Rom but I don't remember if he went back to his old OS, or just re-flashed the current OS version.
