Why won't my Samsung S6 won't connect to my PC after my phones most recent android update?

[AC Question]

I get an 'Attention' notice on the phone which reads:
"The connected device is unable to access data on this device. Reconnect the USB cable and try again.

Android File Transer or Samsung Smart Switch must be installed on Max OS X devices. To download...."

My android version is 6.0.1. I've tried restarting. My laptop says there is a driver error. My laptop is running Windows 10 Home. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi, it was my question originally. I've tried switching it to that but that does not work either. Any other suggestions?
