When I plug a phone into my computer it says there's nothing on the internal storage.

Okay, i have a friends phone and i am trying to pull the data off of it (it's an alcatel onetouch 3) but when i plug it into my computer all it does is say the folder is empty. Like there's nothing on it. (it was dropped awhile ago but still worked, and you could see that there was stuff on it. Now the touch screen doesn't work so i can't transfer it through an sd card). And now i can't see a way around it, if you know how to do to fix this please help me.
