Why do my headphones think their being unplugged but their plugged in? (moto x)

This keeps happening to my headphones, I've gone through many pairs of headphones just fron this.
When this happens a small clicking noise is heard, (exactly like the sound of headphones being taken out of your device.) repeating an endless amount of times. That's all I can say about this problem...

Hi and welcome to Android Central.

Perhaps there is some dirt or lint in the headphone jack. You could try inserting and removing the headphones quickly several times. If that doesn't help, you might want to try blowing out the headphone jack with some compressed air.

Otherwise, the headphone jack might be damaged, which you'll need to take the device to a repair shop to have diagnosed.
