s5 lock pin useless

so i have my lock screen on pin and it is there. it shows a little lock at the bottom to press on if i want to see the pin. but you can also just easily swipe the center of the lock screen without using the pin and you can get in. i don't understand why it does that. what's the point of having a pin to secure my phone if anyone can just swipe and get in? how do you fix that?
