Want to be able to record voice to text rather than audio recording in Samsung Galaxy S7

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and the mike icon in my Message+ does not work because when I press and hold, it records only 1 second and then shuts off. I do NOT want to speak into my phone messaging to a recording as I have a friend who cannot hear recorded (audio) messages. I want to speak into Message+ like I used to by clicking on the mike icon and it changes my words spoken into TEXT. I cannot see anywhere in my settings to change that feature??? Thanks in advance for help.

Welcome to the forums. Have you tried just tapping the microphone icon? The long press may be activating a different action.
