Why can people only hear me if I use speaker phone during calls?

When I make or receive calls people can not hear me unless I put in on speaker phone and turn on extra sound. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Get a small pointed wooden toothpick. Look in the mic hole (check the phone's manual if you don't know which hole that is). Look for lint or dust. If it's there, pick it out with the toothpick. (Lint and dust are sound absorbers.)

If the hole is clear, the phone may be damaged - bad mic or bad earphone jack (the mic leads go through the earphone jack).
