How do I remove the password protection for my "Messaging" app?

Maybe 6 months after I got my LG k7, I responded to something and ended up setting a password for my Messaging app but now I don't want it but can't figure how to remove it and bring Messaging back to normal, except by uninstalling. I don't want to lose the texts I am keeping there so want to do it without uninstalling/re-installing. I have a feeling there may be a hidden app that I downloaded but can't find it. I'm relatively new to the android and smart-phone world.
