Third party wire and data

I bought a third party usb to usb c cable for my C5 Pro when I got the phone. At first I was able to connect it to my pc and transfer data but now I no longer get the data connection. The original cable works fine for data.

I'm wondering what caused this, was it a software update like with apple or just a crappy cable. If the latter, what are the differences with good quality cables that allow them to transmit data compared to the crappy ones.

Good solder joints in the connectors. If one of the data connections breaks, the cable is useful only as a charging cable.
