Hangouts has Stopped Working

[Android Central Question]

When I use the Hangouts App on my Nougat version Moto phone, the app will shut down if I insert an emoji after more than one/one an a half lines of text. I can send large texts without any emoji insertions just fine. However, once I hit the emoji icon after two lines of text, an error message immediately comes up "Unfortunately Hangouts has stopped working" and provides the options to either "open the app again" or "send a report." I have completed a bug report and a screen shot of the problem. How can the problem be rectified?

Welcome to Android Central! Go to Settings>Apps, select Hangouts, then Storage, then Clear Cache/Clear Data. Now open Hangouts again, wait for it to log back in and resync your messages, and try again.
