Android Central Question

I have a new Moto E4. Somehow in the android Message app, that came with the phone, I have a top contact that has no phone number associated with it. I cannot remove it, cannot edit it, and it does not seem to update when I edit it in Google contacts. I am very frustrated as it is someone I text with frequently. I now have to go into my contacts and select the texting option for this person, instead of selecting the contact directly from the messaging app. Any ideas on how to fix this? This is only one of a number of odd things about my contacts on this new phone, but it is the most frustrating.

Welcome to Android Central! Try going to Settings>Apps, select Messages, then Storage, then Clear Cache/Clear Data.

Thanks, but that didn't help. Cleared the cache and the data, then restarted the phone. Everything is still there. Not sure what was in the cache and data! I will continue to search for a solution.
