Why does my charging light come on but not my screen?

So, my step dad dropped his Galaxy S7 and said I could have it if I fixed it. So, first I tried plugging it up on the charger (nothing happened) I also tried to take the battery out but stopped trying because I didnt want to damage anything. Anyways I left it for a while and put it on the charger again today and the blue light comes on at the top and stays on while the charger is in. But when I hold the power button or volume keys the screen stays black, anyone know how to fix this?

Welcome to Android Central! The solid blue light is usually a bad sign. It could be a bad battery, or a bad battery connection, or something with the motherboard. If you want to risk it, you could try opening the phone up and checking connections, or possibly replacing the battery. There are probably numerous DIY YouTube videos showing how to do it.
