Android Central Question

Samsung Galaxy J3(6) aka SM-J320P, running Android 5.1.1.
This is my work phone, and I wear a Bluetooth headset all day. It’s a BlueParrot Vxi B250-XT+.
The topmost of the three buttons on the headset is a ‘multifunction button’ and indicator lights.
For a very long time, all I had to do to place a call is press the multifunction button, wait for a beep, and speak what I wanted: CALL KEN, or CALL HOME, or whatever.
Recently, pressing that button stopped connecting me to the phone app. Instead, it seems to send whatever I say to a Google Internet search.
I have gone as far as uninstalling Google on the phone. Now when I press the button, there’s no response at all!
Do do I make the headset control calling again? (I can still answer, and I can still dial manually)
