I use my phone in remote areas with no recharge capability. Airplane mode saves power. I like to listen to FM Radio. Unfortunately, my current app says it must have Airplane Mode Off to tune. Anybody know of an FM app that works with Airplane Mode? THANKS

I think that that would be impossible in principle.

Some phones have a true FM Radio, though some carriers may disable it - disgracefully in my opinion - so that you have to use an FM Radio app, and therefore data.

On that note a lot of these devices have true FM radios built in so you might be better served to establish if yours has a radio and then how to enable it. Maybe you can contact your carrier, maybe there's a work around for your device but I'm going to guess that airplane mode disabled all radio communication. i.e. data, cellular and normal radio. It may work in areas with no cell connection but that's not the same as turning off all your radios.

My LG V30 has a built in FM radio chip. The software requires airplane mode to be off. This does not surprise me. The purpose of airplane mode is to disable all the radios so that they do not interfere with airplane electronics.

Are you the OP of the thread? Either way it's a definitive answer, provided you don't have a carrier that disables the FM chip in your device.

I can see where Airplane Mode might and might not suppress the FM radio chip. On the one hand "interference" might be caused in certain situations but on the other it is only a receiver and not a transmitter and FM signals are all around us all of the time, so would it really matter if something was picking up that signal???

On a side note I really don't like my previous comment after reading it again even though it was a year ago.
