Pixel process system error - tried everything, won't update apps or boot in safe mode

[Android Central Question]

I'm having the process system isn't responding error and I've tried everything. I tried restarting and powering down (won't do either), checked for a system update (not needed), toggled wifi, toggled airplane mode, deleted a bunch of photos and apps, force quit all apps, cleared the cache on several apps, uninstalled all Play Store updates, and attempted to update all apps and use safe mode.

However, I can't actually get Google Play Store to load so that I can update my apps. I also can't get the phone to restart, power down or start up in safe mode (when I try to start safe mode, it just restarts the phone instead of powering down all the way and giving me any options.

I'm so frustrated I'm ready to smash this phone with a hammer!! Please help!

Welcome to Android Central! Have you tried forcing a shutdown by pressing and holding Power for about 20 seconds?
