Where can i find out about an app icon i dont recognize on a notification bar

My wife and were having a FB messenger conversation a few days ago. I couldn't help but notice an unfamiliar icon at the top in her notification bar a small star with a ...what i fear to think may be a message notification surfacing over the star. Could this possibly be a dating app notification?
