som help with heimdall

here's my situation...first off i'm not that android savvy and the lingo throws me off but i want to learn. i installed a leak of ICS to my phone. i used the EL29 to FD24 ICS 4.0.3 update zip from ACSyndicate from this page EL29 to FD24 ICS update zip!!. I put it on my sd card and installed it..no big deal and it worked fine. but now i would like to use [ROM] FE22 Stock, Rooted, Deodexed (ICS / 4.0.4) from XDA developers that i found on this page [ROM] FE22 Stock, Rooted, Deodexed (ICS / 4.0.4) - xda-developers. the thing is i have a Mac computer and would be using the heimdall program. can i still install this ROM even though i have the zip file on my sd card? and if i can how do i go about doing it? thanks in advance

You don't need to use Heimdell. Use Mobile in lieu of it and you'll be good.

Are you trying to revert to stock and flash the ROM?

Yea I am the 4.0.3 zip file update that was on ACSyndicate. Its FD24

I don't think there is a way to root ICS yet other than using Heimdell or Odin to flash the kernel.

I've never used Heimdell but did some research a while back. It's basically the same as Odin. What help did you need with it?

I don't even know how to use Odin...sad but the extent of my android is update knowledge is uploading an update via SD card. But I wanna learn. Can I pm u?

That should help you out. I've never used Heimdall but hear it's he same as Odin, which I have used. Also be sure to read up in the thread you followed to install ICS and make sure you can return to stock Gingerbread.

I would also suggest searching YouTube for "how to" videos. They helped me out a lot since I was able to see how to do everything after reading up on it. Also, when flashing any ICS ROM using ClockWork Mod I was told to use the EL26 kernel w/ CWM since that was the safest. Other versions of CWM have been known to brick our phones.

ok so heres another question...i have an idea on how to use heimdall but will i still be able to upload custom ROMs even though i'm not rooted and i'm on the EL29 to FD24 update zip file that i installed onto and uploaded from my SD card? thanks

Yes. And by using heimdal to flash a kernel with the el26cwm you can then flash any rooted zip file of a rom. Odin and heimdal eliminate the need for having root in order to flash a file to the phone. Although mobile odin does require root access to flash the files. Remember the zips only are used in cwm. Not odin or heimdal.
