Apps wont SILENCE even when in SILENT mode

I have downloaded APPS from Android Market; EVEN WHEN I am in SILENT mode these games do NOT GO SILENT??? Any ideas would be really be appreciated (we're in the doctors office - I put my Samsung Infuse on SILENT like we should right - my son starts to play a puzzle game and LOUD MUSIC STARTS) - oh no... but we're in SILENT mode - how can this happen?? ;-( thanks for your help .... (the games do have menu settings for MUTE, however, prior to being able to get that setting to MUTE it; the introduction music begins; so no chance to change the settings to silent within the game itself)

Silent mode does silence media or alarms. Your rom might not explicitly say this, mine does (see attached) These have to be turned off separately. Tap on "volume" and slide all three bars all the way to the left.
