How to change background in Hangouts?

I'm giving hangouts a shot as my main SMS app, but I'm not seeing an option to customize the theme or background on my phone. Is it even possible?

Hello,

No there is no options to customize/theme Hangouts. Its a very cut and dry application which for many is fine, but to those who prefer some user end customizing its a fail.

Hello!

No, there is no way to change the theme or background on Hangouts. It is pretty annoying for creative people!

It's fine, though. Everything doesn't always have to be colorful and creative, though lots of people (including me) think it's annoying to not be able to think in this way.
