Why does my phone keep turning off when i hit the lock button

i have a LG nexus 5 and when i hit the lock button to unlock my phone sometimes the power off option comes up and i cancel it but yet five-ten seconds later my phone will just turn off and sometimes it does this multiple times through out the day. Can this be fixed at home or should i just take it in to the store to be fixed

I'm guessing your power button is getting stuck somehow. Try cleaning it with compressed air (turn the phone off first, and don't burst the air there for too long or moisture will occur, and that's not a good thing to have inside your phone). Also see if it doesn't seem broken or mechanically stuck.

If that doesn't help, I'm pretty sure that's what you'd have to replace (either the button itself or the pad on the circuit board it's attached to...or both).
