Tesco Hudl 2 running Android 5.1 not finding and connecting to wifi

My Tesco Hudl 2 running Android 5.1 and has problem connecting to wifi
When I go into wifi in settings and turn on wifi - it continually searches for wifi and finds none, this is despite a number of wifi networks being available to connect to on our other devices

We reset our router and set up a smartphone as hotspot but these along with the other networks still do not show.

Rarely the networks will appear but even if I manage to connect to one they soon disappear as does the internet connection

Does anyone have a fix for this? Does it sound like a software or maybe a hardware issue?

Does the problem persist in Safe Mode? Tesco Tech Support | Hudl 1 Safe Mode. This is for the first Hudl, but it most likely works on the Hudl 2 as well.

Thanks for the reply
Tried it in safe mode and still the same, continually searching for wifi networks with no success
(in safe mode haven't had any networks appear , connect to one and then it and all the other networks to disappear and therefore lose the connection as did in normal mode - just no networks at all in safe mode)

I'd suspect some problem with either the wifi hardware (radio or antenna) or the firmware. Is the device still under warranty?
