7 Pro - very poor battery life

I have a brand-new phone. My usage is very low. Just a few calls during a day, and light texting. The battery goes from 100% to less than 40%. Doesn't look too good. Any idea?

What's the time frame of that battery loss? 2 hours or two days? We need a frame of reference.

Sounds like really good battery life if you still have 40% at the end of the day. But you can check what applications are using the most battery life under battery usage.

Yea, with practically no use. I checked Usage. Most of everything is used by Phone Idle - 24%.

Congrats on the new phone. Because it is new the phone is learning your usage. 40% at the end of a day is good.
This phone will carry you for 1.5 days with just minimal use. I'm sure it will improve.

Is this the first day you used it ever? Keep in mind that all of the system updates and app installation/updates can use a fair amount of battery on the first day.

If you've had the phone for a few weeks already, then this battery life would be unusual. If I left my 7 Pro alone for most of the day, it'd go from 100% to maybe 80-90% by the end of the day. How's your cell signal? Poor signal can significantly drain the battery.

Yes, it has been just a few days. The signal shows full strengths while idle, when I call it fluctuates between full and one or two bars less.

As other users have said, it's likely that your new phone is still learning your usage patterns and the battery will adjust in time. Please keep us posted!

Also, the number of bars is a fairly useless gauge for cell signal as it can/is manipulated by the OEM's. You need to look at signal strength. Go to settings > About Phone > SIM status > Signal strength...lower numbers are better. If it's above 104-105 then you might want to turn off 5G and try LTE and see if the numbers go down. High numbers for signal strength means your battery is being overworked. YMMV

I don’t know that I buy all the wait a few days battery will get better stuff. I can’t recall any phone I’ve had ever that right out of the box didn’t have great battery. It’s brand new and fresh. Even after setting up as new or setting up from a backup I don’t notice a difference. My pixel 7 brand new came with about 70% battery out of the box. I set it up and used it the rest of that day and went to bed with about 40% on the clock and this was heavy usage. FWIW, I always without fail, factory reset every new phone I get before setting it up. I once found a homemade porn flick on a Nokia right out of the box. That aside tho I don’t see any reason not to factory reset a new phone. Who knows how they are tested.
To the OP I’d be installing a good battery monitoring app and see if it indicates anything out of line. The 24% resting batter usage raises a red flag for me, I don’t even see that on my pixel. I’d consider a factory reset as another option. My P7 has about the best longest lasting battery of any android device I’ve had to date. After about 5 hours of fairly heavy usage this morning I’m down 15% on battery. Sweet geezus that’s some good battery.

Do you have a whole bunch of apps? If I were having this issue I’d most likely reset to factory. You can try doing the reinstall using a backup but be prepared for that to not work sufficiently well. Then do another reset if needed setting up as new. If you have apps you never use get rid of them. I knew a lady who had an app addiction and wondered why her phone worked slow and poorly. She had over 300 apps! Not saying this is your problem but some do go overboard on apps. Also as a last resort return the phone if you’re within the return period and then repurchase so you don’t end up with a refurb.

I dont have too many, no app addiction. Most of them are business related and some for my audio system. I can definitely go through and remove anything I dont need. should I do that instead of resetting the phone?

Make sure you have a recent backup and try a full factory reset. That'll be the least painful and it may work without needing to set up his new. You can always save that option for later if need be.
