Recovery problem. . . anyway around this?

I was installing some ROMS today and did a backup of my current working one. I used CM for my backups because I havent seen a way to name them in AmonRa and prefer to name them.
anywho. . . .

I didnt like the rom and went to restore from my backup and its forceclosing out the wazoo on everything when loading. I cannot restore to any restores I have set.
This is on CM 3.0.0.5

Is there anyway to switch to Amonra recovery if I cannot get into the phone other then the consoles before the OS loads?

I cannot load new ROMs even . Saying about edify scripting?

Obvious questions first.
Did you wipe the phone before trying to restore the old backup? Google Calkulin's Format All zip and try flashing that to wipe the phone clean.

I found a way to flash an update zip and got it working.
