Need to learn how to USB tether...would like updated info.
Searched forum, but info I found is old/dated.
Would like some current information.

Evo 4G (not rooted); Android 2.3.3 (Have held off on upgraded of OS)

Got phone on Aug/2010
Have been using the $30/Mo. Hotspot option.
Would like to use a $0/Mo. tether option (money is short).
Seems that one can do this w/o rooting. How?

What software will let me USB tether to my Laptop ?
Do I need to install some software on the laptop ?

I downloaded pdanet onto my phone some months ago, but don't know how to use it.
Have also read somewhere, something re. can download app onto laptop then copy to phone.

Would greatly appreciate any help to get this done.

I use EasyTether.... You can find it in the market, and yes you have to put it on the phone and the computer your using. Easy to install works great for me.
I have the Evo 4G non rooted but my phone is up to date with latest 2.3.4 software. So far no problems at all..

Yep. I used EasyTether before I rooted. Worked great.

i've used pdanet for a few years now. if you have good and clear signal, it's really fast... else, it's a little laggy. that's as it should be expected.

if you're going to be using the phone as a modem, does it really make much difference if it's plugged into usb or the wall ?
