My question is, could there be any potential problem with me using this battery?

I really don't want some crazy chemical (mercury? lithium?) to start leaking out of the battery and mess up my phone :(

it's possible that the wash cycle weakened the battery casing and could leak chemicals and/or combust and damage your phone. personally, i'd probably buy another OEM battery.

as the great Remo Gaggi once said - "Why take a chance?"

good luck.

Did it go through the dryer to or just the washer?

yes.

To the person who asked how this could happen without being in the phone, I (used to) carry a spare battery. The evo's battery life (especially now that I'm not running a custom ROM) doesn't work out for me.

If it still works I'd let it charge for a while and watch the battery temperature carefully (as well as leave the case off the back). If it survives a full charging, you're okay.

That said, since it went through the /dryer/, I'd be more afraid. Heat does not treat batteries well.
