Yes and no you can tether if you root and you can root the 0004 hardware my EVO is less than a week old is 0004 hardware rooted. I am running a custom ROM as well. Check the hacking form for the how too sticky.

The stupid stocks and voicemail keeps popping up in task killer. Is there any good task killer for group 2.2?

Get rid of Task Killer. That's a bigger problem than the other apps you mentioned.

Task killer isn't recommended because Android OS has been written/designed better to handle managing activities.

I've been running the HD ROMs and they mess with the camera so its hard to say if its the ROM or the camera but it does seam to take better pictures.
