hot spot?

do you have to pay extra to use the hot spot app that comes stock on the phone? if so, then which tethering (free) option is best without rooting?

The only free option is to root but temporary root is okay you can find the instructions on how to temp root in this thread:

Then just install WIFI tether you can get it in the Android Market for free.

Whenever I use any of the tether applications I can't get wifi tethering to work with my shift. It says its running, but theres never any SID to connect to. Anything special I need to do? The only tether program that works right is Easy Tether Pro, but thats USB tethering only, and I can't use VPN over that for some reason.

I have not trade it sense I for permanent root. I will give it a try layer today but its a Monday at work so I will be busy it might be tonight before I have time.
