Same here Apex Launcher. I keep mine pretty basic but there are many options to set things up the way you like.

If money were no option, I think the Next 3D launcher is the coolest. Gives you a 3D interface with loads of themes to choose from and runs liquid smooth on the M8. The down side is it costs US$17. There is a decent fee trial period, though.

Just trying to wait for enough Google Opinion survey credits. Lol

There's another I think called Comet that is a free 3D launcher, but it was glitchy on my phone, so I uninstalled it.

Argh, anything but Go. Its almost bloatware at this point, they throw everything but the kitchen sink into their applications. Its slow, ugly (I suppose this is personal taste, but i find it much to 3D and prefer a flat look to my software) and it takes one click too many to actually do things in my opinion.

I would recommend either Nova, or google now at this point. I am using HTC, I have yet to find a launcher that suits my need, I am thinking about converting to GPE. We will see.

I use nova prime as I find it to be the overall best, but I would also recommend Themer as it has awesome setups and the lag/loading it used to have has been greatly reduced.

I've tried Go Launcher before, it's good if you like theming that applies to everything and they have a whole bevy of apps that work best with their launcher, some only with their launcher, but others don't need the launcher (Go SMS). Personally I like Nova Launcher Prime with Tesla Unread Counter. It all depends on what features you want. With Nova you can do a lot that you would only normally be able to do with a custom ROM. You can use custom icon packs, Change the grid size (I always do, every stock UI I have used, namely Touch Wiz and Sense, and they always have way too small a grid forcing me to use a lot of folders which on Sense are limited to 16 apps per folder. You can also adjust the grid in the app drawer, and increase the number of panes you have, I think unlimited. And the greatest feature in Nova, IMO, is that you can place 2 apps on one icon, swipe the icon to start the second app. Additionally you can also add additional panes to the dock rather than being limited to one pane with 5 slots.
