Can I limit my recent apps pages?

After the Lollipop update the recent apps section has changed drastically. Which I wouldn't mind if I didn't have to go in and clear it manually all the time. Is there a way to close an app so that it doesn't stay in this section after I'm done with it. Or to go back to the version that only saved the last 9 recent apps?

Welcome to Android Central! I'm afraid not. Remember that the Recent Apps list is not actually a task manager, so swiping away an app doesn't necessarily close it out of RAM; nor does the presence of an app in the Recent Apps list mean that it's open in RAM.

If you want you can have the old KitKat grid layout back, just open the recent apps, tap the settings (three dots, top right corner) choose settings, open layout and select grid view, in which it contains the clear all recent apps option.
