HTC one M8 - mic issues related to google voice search?

Hello,

Just started using an HTC One M8 and have to admit I've got off to a rocky start. It's no rooted. What seems to happen is the mic is getting cut off. I think it's something to do with Google???

I can have it working, record a voice memo, make a call and they can hear me, then if I use Google voice search or open Google Play Store the mic stops working again. I bought the phone used, so can't send it back alas. I do trust the guy I bought it off.

I have tried a full factory re-boot and it works OK, but as soon as I get into setting it up with my Google account etc. it happens again.

Is there anything I should be watching out for? Anything obvious that I'm doing wrong or should be looking out for?

Welcome to Android Central! Open your Google Settings app, then select Search & Now>Voice>"Ok Google" Detection, and make sure "From any screen" is turned off.
